This tapestry was inspired by a 16th century allegorical scene entitled the Sacrifice to Cybele painted by Jan Brueghel de Velours (1568-1625). Cybele, the Goddess of Earth, attended by cherubs in a pastoral background is being offered gifts by the nymphs.
