L'Indiscretion: This is one of the famous scenes inspired by the gallant countryside compositions by Fragonard (1732-1806). This scene, full of wit, vitality and charm, is representative of the period style.
L'Escarpolette: In 1767, the painter Doyen got an order from a courtier to paint his mistress on a swing, pushed by a bishop, the lord himself hidden in the trees and watching his lady’s petticoats. Doyen, scandalized by this, recommended Fragonard, best known for his paintings of gallant scenes.
